Is Thor Fat According to Norse Mythology? – Guide Fall

Thor is the Norse god of thunder and the son of Odin. He is known for his immense strength and power, as well as his association with storms, oak trees, and death.

Following the reveal of Thor in God of War: Ragnarok, the internet has been ablaze with debate. Santa Monica Studio’s version of the Norse god of thunder seems to be a little chubby, which has inevitably resulted in a flood of fat Thor jokes. But, according to Norse mythology, is Thor fat? Are there any particular instances of his physique that have been mentioned in the legends?

In Norse mythology, is Thor fat?

Is Thor Fat In Norse Mythology? In God of War: Ragnarok, Thor looks like this.

There’s no evidence in the Norse mythology that Thor is overweight. Existing depictions of Thor’s physical stature indicate that he is both large and powerful, yet there is no mention of him being overweight or out of shape.

The mystery surrounding Thor’s appearance comes from a number of reasons. To begin with, his size and form are intrinsically subjective as a mythical character. As a result, all representations of Thor in the arts, whether in paint, sculpture, or engravings, are simply interpretations of his look. In most early representations, Thor is shown as a muscular and wide guy rather than a chubby man.

Second, in contemporary culture, there are differing views on what makes a “strong” figure. We’re accustomed to seeing shredded heroes in comics and movies because we’re big fans of TV, movies, and comic books. However, they aren’t the kind of corpses that ancient civilizations would have encountered. Strong bodies of the period would have been well-fed and well-trained, similar to those of today’s World’s Strongest Man contestants. Check it out for yourself: These men don’t have the slender, toned physique that are often portrayed in comics and movies. You might label them overweight, but you’ll probably come to regret it.

He’s a Big Guy, To Be Sure.

However, there is precedent to indicate that Thor would have been well-trained and well-nourished. The Lay of Thrym, a well-known story from the Poetic Edda, tells about Thor deceiving a giant who stole the hammer Mjolnir in an ill-advised effort to claim Freyja as his bride. Thor eats whole beasts and drinks full barrels of mead before exposing his real identity after disguising himself as Freyja. He recovered his hammer and proceeded to murder the whole wedding celebration.

Thor competes in a drinking contest in another tale, The Tale of Utgarda-Loki. Skrymir, also known as Utgarda-Loki, taunted the thunder god by claiming that any of his visitors could empty his horn in three gulps. Thor, on the other hand, had no idea he was being duped since the horn was linked to the sea itself. Before leaving, the deity took three massive gulps, almost draining the whole sea in the process.

Thor was renowned for his voracious, typically male hunger, and these are perfect instances of it. He was the people’s deity, so he could battle and feast with the finest of them. However, this does not imply that he was obese or unhealthy.

Thor has always been portrayed as a strong character with a voracious hunger. However, there is no mention of Thor being overweight in Norse mythology. He’s far from it; in fact, he’s one of the Norse pantheon’s most active and fit gods. Although Thor from God of War: Ragnarok seems to be overweight, he is a more accurate representation of a strong deity than the mainstream media’s depiction of a gym rat with a single-digit body fat percentage.

The loki norse mythology is a question that has been asked many times. However, the answer to this question depends on your interpretation of Norse Mythology.
