The Path of Exile community has been waiting for the next big update to the game, and it’s finally here. The new patch includes a major balance pass on defense and recovery, along with many other changes that make the game more enjoyable.
Grinding Gear Games said yesterday that it plans to post a trio of dev blogs building up to the announcement and release of Path of Exile’s 3.16 Scourge expansion later this month. The first installment dealt with flasks and disease reduction, while the second focuses on basic character protections and recuperation.
“We’re conducting a big balancing pass to enhance all characters’ defenses and recovery,” GGG says. “The goal here is to put more power into the core defenses (Armour, Evasion, and Energy Shield) to make them the best way to mitigate the kind of damage they’re best at preventing, while taking some of that power away from the one-off mechanics that provide a significant amount of defense for too little money. While certain specific mechanisms have been nerfed, defenses have received a significant boost overall.”
“Previously, there were some very tanky characters, but they were locked behind specialized mechanics and uniques that were not available to everyone.” What we’re doing here is transferring a large portion of that power to everyone else, making fundamental defenses much more strong than they were before. We’re also making sure that every character has a variety of methods to deal with a wider range of damage kinds. For example, since Evasion is good at mitigating Attacks, we’ve added Spell Suppression to assist Evasion builds defend themselves against Spells.”
Once again, the studio has a lengthy list of issues it’s discovered along these lines, as well as particular remedies, mostly for the eyes of min-maxers. The third blog, which will cover auras, curses, and elemental DOTs, will be published later today.
