The NFL Draft is one of the most exciting moments for a team, and it’s also a time when players are selected by their future employers. In 2000, Tom Brady was not drafted in the first round, but he went on to win four Super Bowls with the New England Patriots.
Tom Brady’s production company name 199 productions is a play on the number of teams that didn’t pick him in the 2000 NFL Draft.
Tom Brady, the NFL’s GOAT, is expanding out from the game and laying the groundwork for his post-football career, much as Michael Jordan did in the NBA. Brady has a docuseries in the works, following in the footsteps of Jordan, who was the focus of an entertaining ESPN documentary. It’s being produced by his own multimedia business, 199 Productions, in collaboration with ESPN and Gothram Chopra.
If you’re curious about the 199th selection in the 2000 NFL Draft, consider this: Brady was the 199th pick overall. And for the NFL great, being the 199th selection has worked out well.

Brady founded 199 Productions in the first half of 2020. The name of the content business is a jab at the 31 clubs who passed him over in the 2000 NFL Draft.
The Man in the Arena: Tom Brady, Brady’s forthcoming docuseries, will focus on the quarterback’s nine Super Bowl appearances with the New England Patriots. If you think the series would be all smiles and triumphs, think again: it will also examine the Patriots’ three heartbreaking Super Bowl defeats. That includes the Patriots’ unbeaten season in 2008, which was marred by a loss.
In addition, Anthony Russo, co-director of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, has something in the works with 199 Productions, according to WSJ Magazine. However, it is unlikely to be the next Avengers movie.
“Tom has great narrative instincts,” says Russo of Brady.
Brady will approach his post-football career with the same relentlessness he shows on the field and in life, according to Chopra, who created the Tom versus Time series.
“Everything in [Tom’s] life revolves around the question of ‘How can I accomplish this thing?’” ‘How can I improve?’ Chopra explains. “The rest of the world says, ‘No, you can’t get much better.’” ‘No one has been better,’ he constantly says, ‘No, I can, I can…’ He reminds me of a crazy scientist or a monk.”
What occurred in the NFL Draft of 2000?
Brady was not considered a first-round quarterback due to his poor performance at the scouting combine. He was also not selected in the first round. He also missed the second, third, fourth, and fifth rounds.
Bill Belichick didn’t select him until the sixth round, with the 199th pick. Six quarterbacks were chosen before Brady: Chad Pennington, Giovanni Carmazzi, Chris Redman, Tee Martin, Marc Bulger, and Spergon Wynn.
They threw for a total of 44,470 yards and 246 touchdowns between them. Mr. Sixth Round Pick has passed for 79,204 yards and 581 touchdowns in his career as of this writing.
Tom Brady is also expanding his TB12 brand and launching a clothing line.
Never one to rest on his laurels, the future Hall of Famer has proceeded to expand his TB12 brand and will debut a clothing line in December named Brady.
The quarterback’s clothing line, according to Huddle Up, is similar to the Jordan brand, a high-end clothing line that incorporates men’s training and sportswear. Dao-Yi Chow, a former DKNY designer, and Jens Grede, the brains behind Kim Kardashian West’s billion-dollar Skims business, are collaborating with Brady on the new line.
The Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers, and others are likely to be kicking themselves for skipping Brady. That’s because Wynn only appeared in seven games for the Browns in his first season and only threw one touchdown pass in his entire NFL career. Carmazzi never played a regular-season game with the 49ers.
What about Brady? He took the fact that his teammates disregarded him as proof that they were all incorrect. The mission has been completed.
Tom Brady calls the NFL’s new jersey number rule “crazy,” citing his long career as a reason for protesting this “very difficult thing.”
