The use of the Quad Damage power-up in Doom has been a subject of some debate since its release. While it’s generally agreed that its benefits outweigh its costs, many players insist on dismissing it as “overpowered,” and refuse to acknowledge the positive effects of using this power-up. In fact, there are more than a few justifications to keep it in your inventory until the end of the game.

Of course the first reason to keep it is that it makes your life easier. The ability to do double damage, which you’d have otherwise gained by beating the game under Ultra-Violence skill, means that you’ll breeze through average encounters. Enemies who would usually take 20 or more bullets to kill will now die in just a few shots. The power-up’s ability to absorb half of all damage dealt to you (negating the use of a medikit in 99% of cases), makes it even more useful.

It Makes the Game More Enjoyable

Quad Damage makes Doom easier, while keeping it challenging at the same time. The player can often clear out a room full of enemies while sustaining little or no damage himself due to the damage multiplier granted by QD, but will have to exercise skill in order to accomplish this feat. Simply running around a room, shooting wildly with the super shotgun will not do. Players are forced to take up steady aim and fire accurately, which is made much easier by having QD active.

The power-up should not be viewed as something that gives the player an unfair advantage against his foes. Rather, it should be seen as what makes Doom “Doom” again. Without it, the game would simply be too easy, and there wouldn’t be any need to run around chaingunning everything in sight.

Quad Damage Is Not Too Overpowered… It Has Its Limits

There are certainly some caveats to using the Quad Damage power-up. The first is that it can only be used for a very limited time (usually around 30 seconds). This is enough time to track down and confront the biggest threat in the immediate vicinity, but little more. There’s no point in picking up Quad Damage if you don’t know where its target will come from; it’d be like killing an unseen enemy by firing blind, an act the player should avoid whenever possible.

The limited time also means that you need to be in the right place at the right time in order to use it, which is another reason why QD can’t simply be activated on a whim. Players may end up wasting its benefits if there are no enemies in sight or they’re not within range.

What is quad damage in doom

Quad Damage in Doom is a powerup that appears in the classic first person shooter game Doom and it’s most recent version, Doom 3. Quad damage doubles the damage caused by weapons especially when using a shotgun. It has been known to make demons and zombies explode on impact with some blood and guts flying off at the same time.

It came out in Doom 3 but it has been seen in the original game

Quad Damage was removed from multiplayer maps for Quake Live because of its unpopularity, especially when taking into account how it would affect competitive play. However, the power-up itself is still usable in classic maps that were expanded or ported to the new engine after the game’s release.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Quad Damage power-up in Doom is a good thing, and should be kept in your inventory until you’ve cleared each map. It makes combat easier without necessarily making the game easy, because it forces players to become more accurate with their weapons of choice. Finally, remember that always keeping QD on hand isn’t advisable, since it may be a waste to use if the player doesn’t know where enemies will come from, or isn’t within range.
