The Science of Stickiness – Why Some Creators Go Viral Twice

What makes one video blow up when another one fizzles out? Even stranger, what explains creators that get lucky – twice? People sometimes go viral from doing nothing. There’s something about what they are doing or how they are doing things; it is what keeps folks coming down the aisle to watch. It’s more complex than random luck. Science is involved here.

Understanding Initial Virality

The first spark often involves appealing to base emotions: humor, surprise, anger, and sadness. Content that elicits a strong emotional response forces people to interact; it will get people talking. That initial wave of views, comments, and shares catapults something in the algorithm’s favor. Social media platforms see that as a really good sign. The issue is a lot of people get too excited about the virality and do not know that repeating it can be hard. It is hard to get things to go viral more than once.

Also, keep in mind that timing matters a great deal too. The right topic might be trending at just the right time. The other things that can’t really be counted can be just as, if not more, important — like luck. Luck may matter the most. I wouldn’t doubt that you need all three in order to get something to go viral over and over again.

Creating Lasting Connections

Landing a second viral moment calls for building actual, lasting relations. Instead of only doing things to grab awareness, the focus shifts to becoming known. Think of it as moving away from only being known for going viral and focusing on becoming one of the viral big guys.

This is why a huge part of becoming viral again involves making quality content. With every viral moment, there is always a chance to convert views into subscribers.

Tapping Into the Algorithmic Flow

What is not spoken about that much in the online space is that the algorithms of social media sites play a very real role. They reward things that encourage people to stick around even longer. The challenge here is that it almost always seems like the algorithm just wants the opposite of what people are doing; algorithms are complicated.

Creators that succeed will try out social media platforms. What seems like luck is just experimenting with a ton of different content to see if some works. Those that work are further refined; the cycle continues. This is how repeat viral content occurs, oftentimes. Understanding this can help people organically purchase Instagram followers.

Predicting Future Viral Content

It’s hard to really say for sure what will go viral. However, analyzing past events really can’t hurt. Things that got people excited previously serve as the best place to start: analyze those angles. Understand what they did to make a hit. A formula can be constructed from analyzing things, but keep in mind that virality also includes just getting exceptionally lucky – all the time. No amount of analysis or research will take that away, but analyzing does give you a larger boost.

The best piece of advice is to stay flexible and be able to change immediately. If something is happening, jump on it and make that momentum carry you. And, of course, keep trying new things! It’s what you really should to become discoverable; it will get you known by a large audience. And don’t forget to put your channel name on everything! If people don’t become familiar, you’ll lose your chance to become known as one of the viral guys.

Going viral once might be a simple change, but getting viral again needs a lot more. Knowing your fanbase, knowing how the algorithms work, and always experimenting are all very important keys. It all comes down to getting your viewers to love what you produce – and wanting more. Then, you are going to get your chance to go viral again!
